Use the **Network** panel to analyze page load and inspect network resources.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Key Point:** You can also use **AI assistance** to understand requests sent by your website. See [AI assistance for network](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/ai-assistance/chat#network).

## Overview

The **Network** panel lets you:

- [Record network activity](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/overview#activity)
- [Inspect network requests](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/overview#inspect)

Check out [Inspect network activity](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network) for a guided tutorial exploring some of the most commonly-used **Network** panel features.

## Open the Network panel

To open the **Network** panel, [open DevTools](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/open) and then click **Network** located in the action bar at the top.

Alternatively, to open the **Network** panel through the **Command menu** follow these steps:

1. [Open DevTools](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/open).
2. Open the **Command menu** by pressing:
3. macOS: <kbd>Command</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>P</kbd>
4. Windows, Linux, ChromeOS: <kbd>Control</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>P</kbd> ![Command Menu with](https://developer.chrome.com/static/docs/devtools/network/overview/image/cmdm-network-panel.png)
5. Start typing `Network`, select **Show Network panel** , and press <kbd>Enter</kbd>.

## Record network activity

When you [open DevTools](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/open), network requests are automatically recorded in the **Network** panel, so long as DevTools is open.

In addition to recording, you can do the following:

- [Stop recording network requests](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#stop-recording).
- [Clear all requests](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#clear) from the **Requests** table.
- [Save requests across page loads](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#preserve-log).
- [Emulate an offline experience](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#offline).
- [Simulate slower network connections](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network#throttle).

## Inspect network requests

All network requests are logged in the **Requests** table at the center of the panel.

To learn more about columns displayed by default and additional ones you can add, see [View a log of requests](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#requests).

Click the name of a request to see tabs with additional information on the request, including the following:

- [**Headers**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#headers): The HTTP headers of the selected request.
- [**Payload**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#payload): The query string parameters and form data of a request.
- [**Preview**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#preview): A basic rendering of the HTML.
- [**Response**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#response): The HTML source code of the request.
- [**Initiator**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#initiators-dependencies): What caused the request.
- [**Timing**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#timing): A breakdown of the network activity for the selected request.
- [**Cookies**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#cookies): Cookies of the request and its response.
- [**Device bound sessions**](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#dbsc): The deferral and refresh status of active device bound sessions.

## Filter and sort network requests

The **Network** panel give you two ways to sort requests in the **Requests** table:

- [Sort by column](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#sort-by-column)
- [Sort by activity phase](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#sort-by-activity).

The following are several ways to filter requests in the **Requests** table:

- [Filter requests by properties](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#filter-by-property)
- [Filter requests by type](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#filter-by-type)
- [Filter requests by time](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#filter-by-time)
- [Hide data URLs](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#hide_data_urls)
- [Hide extension URLs](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#hide-extension-urls)
- [Show only the requests with blocked response cookies](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#show-blocked-cookies)
- [Show only blocked requests](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#show-blocked)
- [Show only third-party requests](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#third-party)

## Search network headers and responses

To learn how to search the HTTP headers and responses of all resources for a certain string or regular expression, see [Search network headers and responses](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network#search).

## Change loading behavior

Test your page's user experience by changing loading behavior in the **Network** panel.

Using the **Network** panel you can do the following:

- [Emulate a first-time visitor by disabling the browser cache](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#disable-cache)
- [Manually clear the browser cache](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#clear-cache)
- [Manually clear browser cookies](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#clear-cookies)
- [Emulate offline](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#offline)
- [Simulate a slow network connection](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#throttling)
- [Override HTTP response headers](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#override-headers)
- [Override the user agent](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#user-agent)

## Save and export network request data

To save and export network request data, see the following:

- [Save all network requests to a HAR file](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#save-as-har)
- [Copy one or more requests to the clipboard](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/network/reference#copy)
